Free online audio editor

Open a file or record one, select on the waveform, and cut, fade or run it through an EQ, compressor and reverb. Export to MP3, WAV or OGG. Your audio never leaves this tab.

How to use it

  1. Drop in an audio file (or record a new take).
  2. Drag across the waveform to select a region, then trim, delete, silence or fade it.
  3. Open the effects rack: pick a preset like "Podcast voice" or dial in EQ, compression, reverb and echo. Tick "Hear effects live" to audition.
  4. Press "Apply to audio", then choose a format and download.

What the editor can do

Destructive, sample-accurate edits: keep a selection (trim), delete it, replace it with silence, fade in or out, normalize to −1 dBFS and reverse. Every step goes on a 20-level undo stack, and "Revert" jumps back to the file as you opened it.

The effects rack chains a high-pass filter, a five-band EQ (80 Hz shelf, 250 Hz, 1 kHz, 4 kHz, 12 kHz shelf), a compressor with make-up gain, reverb, echo, output gain and a brick-wall limiter. It is rendered offline, so the result is identical on a slow phone and a fast desktop.

A good default chain for spoken word

High-pass at 80 Hz to remove desk thumps and rumble, a gentle cut around 250 Hz if the voice sounds boxy, a small lift at 4 kHz for clarity, then compress at about 3:1 so quiet words come up. Finish with the limiter so nothing clips. The "Podcast voice" preset sets exactly that.

Questions

Is my audio uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is decoded, processed and encoded by your own browser using the Web Audio API. Nothing is sent to a server, which is also why it works on large files without a queue.

Which file types can I open?

Anything your browser can decode: MP3, WAV, M4A/AAC, OGG Vorbis, Opus, FLAC and WebM audio work in Chrome, Edge and Firefox. Safari handles MP3, WAV, M4A and FLAC; recent versions also open Opus and WebM. You can also open the audio track of most MP4 videos.

Is there a length limit?

Files up to 250 MB and 60 minutes. Editing is done in memory, and an hour of stereo audio already takes around 1.3 GB of RAM as 32-bit samples, so longer files would crash many phones.

Does it support multitrack editing?

No, it edits one track at a time. To combine several files end to end, use the Audio Joiner.
