Robot voice changer

Speak into the mic and get a metallic, sci-fi robot voice back in one tap. Try Telephone or Old radio for a different kind of machine.

How to use it

  1. Press Record and speak, open a file, or load the sample clip.
  2. The robot effect plays as soon as the audio is ready.
  3. Compare with Telephone, Old radio or Monster, or combine: apply a custom pitch first and download, then reopen that file and add Robot.
  4. Download MP3, WAV or OGG.

How the robot sound works

The robot preset is ring modulation: your voice is multiplied by a steady 50 Hz sine wave. That creates new frequencies at the sum and difference of each voice harmonic and 50 Hz, which no longer line up as a natural harmonic series, so the ear hears a metallic, synthetic tone. Ring modulation is also the classic technique behind the Dalek voices in Doctor Who.

Speaking in a flat monotone, with even syllables, makes the effect far more convincing.

Use it fairly

These are sound effects, not voice cloning. Do not use them to impersonate someone or to deceive people, and only process other people's recordings with their permission.

Questions

Is my audio uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is decoded, processed and encoded by your own browser using the Web Audio API. Nothing is sent to a server, which is also why it works on large files without a queue.

Why does the robot voice sound buzzy?

Ring modulation adds new frequencies around every part of your voice. Speak a bit quieter and more evenly, or follow it with the Telephone preset in a second pass to narrow it down.

Can I use it live on Discord or Zoom?

No. This tool changes recordings and files. Live voice changing in calls needs a virtual audio driver installed on your computer.

Is this an AI voice changer?

No. It uses classic signal processing (pitch shifting and filtering), so it is instant, free and works offline once the page has loaded. It cannot imitate a specific real person.
