Reverse audio

Record yourself or open a file and flip it backwards in one click. Handy for sound design and the reverse-singing challenge.

How to use it

  1. Record a phrase or open a file.
  2. Press "Reverse whole file".
  3. Play it back, or download it.

The reverse-singing game

Record a friend singing a line, reverse it, and have them learn and sing the reversed version. Record that, reverse it again, and the original line comes back, with some very strange vowels.

In music production, a reversed cymbal or piano note makes a swell that builds into the next beat. Reverse a reverb tail for the classic "reverse reverb" vocal lead-in.

Questions

Is my audio uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is decoded, processed and encoded by your own browser using the Web Audio API. Nothing is sent to a server, which is also why it works on large files without a queue.

Are there hidden messages in songs played backwards?

Some artists put deliberate reversed passages in their songs (backmasking). Most "hidden messages" people hear are pareidolia: the brain finding familiar words in random sounds.
